Did you know that about 23% of all cases of rabies in California come from skunks?

Skunks descend on Sacramento for mating season

Animal trappers told Fox 40 TV that hundreds of skunks are coming out of the woods and heading into the city looking for their mate.

“It’s crazy,” Creature Catchers animal trapper Stephen Andert Jr. told the TV station. “They are everywhere.”

Andert added the skunks can be even more trouble once they find love. He told the TV station that when females meet their mate and become pregnant, they ward off other suitors with a foul-smelling spray.

Sacramento, of course, isn’t the first town to deal with a skunk invasion.

In 2011, an Arkansas town was on high alert after six rabid skunks were captured. And in 2010, a Bronx housing project reported skunks were ravaging through their trash at night and terrorizing their pets.
