Did you know that about 23% of all cases of rabies in California come from skunks?

How to get Rid of Skunks

Skunk-TrappedThere are a number of things that you can do to dissuade skunks from your property. There is nothing worse than having a skunk showing up multiple times during the week and spraying every moving object that comes into its path. Skunks usually live close to the vicinity of where they roam. So, if you see a skunk in your yard or if you smell a skunk around your house, the first thing you want to do is to check around the base of your home. Has the skunk burrowed under the concrete, access point to crawl space, under the deck, in the flower bed, etc? Skunks do not usually climb, so finding out where it is getting into the yard can help a little. I say a little because they are excellent diggers. They can dig almost anywhere there is dirt. Once you find out whether it lives in your yard or not, then you want to make it not so convenient for that skunk to be there.

Here are a few things that you can do to deter the skunk:

  1. Do not leave pet food outside.
  2. Seal up all pet food after the pets have finished eating.
  3. Let your dog roam the backyard. Skunks are afraid of dogs.
  4. Keep your lawn free from grubs. Grub worms are one of the main dishes of skunks. They’ll tear up your lawn to find them.

To keep them from coming back the best thing is to have a trapper trap one and then have a pest control company treat the lawn with a granular pesticide that will kill the grubs. Master Pest Patrol just happens to be licensed for Pest Control and Wildlife Nuisance.
